KDP AI-Generated Content Disclosure Guide

When disclosure is required

Amazon KDP requires publishers to disclose AI-generated text, images, and translations when publishing a new book or editing and republishing an existing book. This includes AI-generated cover and interior artwork. Amazon defines AI-generated content as content created by an AI-based tool, even if you later make substantial edits.

AI-generated versus AI-assisted

KDP distinguishes AI-generated content from work you created yourself and then used AI to edit, refine, error-check, improve, or brainstorm. Amazon describes the latter as AI-assisted and says that type does not need disclosure. Your actual workflow determines the appropriate answer; review KDP's current definitions before submitting.

Publisher checklist

  • Review every final interior page, cover, title, subtitle, and product description.
  • Confirm you hold the required copyright, trademark, publicity, and other rights.
  • Answer KDP's AI-content disclosure questions accurately for the final version.
  • Keep records of source materials, licenses, and your review process.
